Farming Organically
Benefits of organic produce: for you and the environment
We believe organic food tastes better; it’s full of vitamins and minerals and is grown as nature intended. Our growers and farmers, use only natural means to fertilise and nourish the soil. They also turn to nature to help keep pests under control. Take the ladybird. It’s part of the Shropshire’s Organics logo because it preys on bad bugs like aphids and other plant-eating insects, symbolising our growers’ 100% natural approach to farming.
Our growers
Satisfying your appetite for quality organic vegetables and salad is something we feel very passionately about and our relationship with our growers is vital. Chosen because they care as much as we do, we work with them to maintain the highest standards from field to organic box delivered to your home.
The core group of growers are based in East Anglia, close to where we pack the organic boxes. Some crops are better suited to different soils and growing conditions so we have selected growers from other regions to add variety, as well as other seasonal specialities.
Soil Association
Shropshire’s Organics is licensed by the Soil Association, the UK's leading environmental charity promoting sustainable, organic farming and championing human health, and the UK’s largest organic certification body.
Beetle banks
Beetle Banks are 2 to 4 metre wide ridges established on organic land to divide larger fields. They act as a haven for 'friendly' insects which prey on insect pests in the neighbouring fields.
The banks are sown with a mix of plants including cocksfoot, timothy and red fescue. They also provide ground nesting habitat for birds as well as hibernating and nesting habitat for small mammals, beetles and bumblebees, which all play their part in the ecosystem.
